Voter list format: the columns we read
Campaign teams can upload their own voter lists — booth lists, survey sheets, contacts collected in the field, or exports of the Election Commission's elector database — into the voter table of a campaign. This page lists the columns that are recognised. Headings can be in English or Hindi, in any order, and the heading row may sit below a title row.
Files
- Excel (.xlsx, .xls), OpenDocument (.ods) or CSV, up to 25 MB and 20,000 rows per file.
- In a workbook, the sheet whose headings match best is read; an instructions sheet is skipped.
- For CSV, use “CSV UTF-8” when saving from Excel so Hindi text survives.
- Each row needs an EPIC number or a name. Rows with neither are skipped and listed before you import.
Columns
| Column | Needed? | Also recognised as | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part No | Recommended | Part, Part No., PART_NO, Booth No, भाग संख्या | Polling-station part number. A file holding several parts imports into each part. |
| Serial No | Recommended | Sl. No., Sr, S.No, SLNOINPART, क्रम संख्या, क्रमांक | Serial of the voter within the part. Without one, new rows continue after the part's last serial. |
| EPIC No | EPIC or name | EPIC, Voter ID, EPIC_NO, ID Card No, एपिक | Spaces and dashes are removed and letters capitalised. |
| Name | EPIC or name | Name, Elector's Name, Voter Name, First Name + Last Name, FM_NAME_EN + LASTNAME_EN, नाम | Split first and last names are joined. |
| Name (Hindi) | Optional | Name (Hindi), FM_NAME_V1 + LASTNAME_V1, नाम हिंदी | As printed on the roll, in Devanagari. |
| Age | Optional | Age, उम्र, आयु — or Date of Birth, DOB, जन्मतिथि | 18–120. A date of birth is turned into an age. Devanagari digits (४२) work. |
| Gender | Optional | Gender, Sex, लिंग | Male / Female / Other, M / F / O, पुरुष / महिला / अन्य. |
| Relation Type | Optional | Relation Type, RLN_TYPE, संबंध | Father / Husband or Wife / Mother / Other, F / H / M / O, पिता / पति / माता. |
| Relative's Name | Optional | Father's/Husband's Name, Father Name, RLN_FM_NM_EN + RLN_L_NM_EN, पिता/पति का नाम | |
| House No | Optional | House No., C_HOUSE_NO, Address, मकान संख्या | |
| Village / Locality | Optional | Village, Mohalla, Ward, SECTION_NAME, गांव, मोहल्ला | The roll's section name works as the locality. |
| Mobile | Optional | Mobile, Mobile No., Phone, MOBILE_NO, मोबाइल | 10-digit Indian mobile, with or without +91 or 0. Anything else is left empty. |
Before anything is saved, the upload screen shows how each of your columns was read and lets you change it — so a sheet with unusual headings can still be imported.
How rows are merged
- A row whose EPIC is already in the campaign updates that voter, wherever the voter is.
- Otherwise a row whose part and serial are already taken updates the voter at that serial.
- An upload only fills in what is empty. It never overwrites a name, age, phone or village already on a voter.
- The same EPIC twice in one file, or a serial whose existing voter has a different EPIC, is skipped and reported.
- Re-uploading a corrected file is safe: nothing is duplicated.
Phone numbers and consent
Electoral rolls never carry phone numbers. Add a mobile only when the voter has given it to your team, and record their consent before messaging them. Phone numbers you upload stay inside your campaign; the constituency roll the platform publishes for entitled seats has no phone numbers.
Electoral roll PDFs
Do not upload the Election Commission's roll PDFs here. They are read by the platform's own roll pipeline and appear, part by part, in the Constituency Roll tab of your campaign for the seats you are entitled to.
