Frequently asked questions
Getting started
What is DemocracyIndia?
DemocracyIndia is a civic platform that connects citizens with their elected representatives. You can find your MP and MLA by constituency, read the Constitution in English and Hindi, browse government schemes, follow civic news and take part in the citizens' forum.
Is DemocracyIndia free to use?
Yes. Everything for citizens is free. Leaders, parties and campaign teams can subscribe to workspace plans for tools such as contact management, broadcasts and election war rooms.
Do I need an account?
Not to read. Representatives, constituencies, the Constitution, schemes and news are all public. A free account lets you post in the forum, ask your representative a question, message other members and connect with leaders and organisations.
Representatives and constituencies
How do I find my MP and MLA?
Open Find Your Constituency and use your location, or choose your state and Lok Sabha seat. Every Lok Sabha and assembly constituency has its own page with the sitting member, past election results and the number of polling stations.
Where does the information about representatives come from?
From official sources: the Lok Sabha Secretariat's member directory and state assembly directories for names and contact details, and Election Commission of India results for election history. Each profile links to its source and shows when its contact details were last checked.
How do representatives verify their profile?
A sitting MP or MLA signs in with a leader account and claims their profile. Our team checks the claim against the official contact details on record before the profile is marked "Verified on DemocracyIndia" and the representative can publish updates and answer questions.
Can I contact my representative through DemocracyIndia?
Every profile shows the official email, phone number and office address we have on record. Representatives who have verified their profile can also receive your questions and connection requests on DemocracyIndia.
Constitution
Can I read the Constitution of India here?
Yes. The full Constitution of India is available in English and Hindi: the Preamble, all 25 Parts with 498 Articles, and the 12 Schedules, from the Government of India's bilingual edition. You can also read it article by article in 22 Indian languages.
What is The Real Constitution of Bharat?
A book by Dr Satinder Singh Malik (Sabre & Quill Publishers, New Delhi, May 2025) that examines the present Constitution and its European roots and sets out a constitutional framework for Bharat grounded in Indian civilisation. All 34 chapters are available here in English and Hindi.
Is the Constitution text here authoritative?
The text comes from the Government of India's official bilingual edition. For legal purposes, the official text published at legislative.gov.in remains the authoritative source.
Schemes and benefits
Which government schemes are listed?
20 central government schemes across 12 categories, including entrepreneurship, agriculture, finance & savings, housing. Each scheme page covers who is eligible, the benefits and how to apply, with a link to the official portal.
How do I check whether I am eligible for a scheme?
Each scheme page lists its eligibility criteria. To check your eligibility across all government schemes at once, use the Government of India's myScheme portal, linked from our Schemes page.
For leaders and parties
How can elected representatives and candidates join?
Choose Leader when you create your account (or switch an existing account to a leader account). A sitting MP or MLA then claims their profile, which our team verifies; a candidate or aspirant declares the constituency they are contesting instead.
What do leader plans cost?
Citizens never pay. Leader workspace plans are Aspirant ₹499 a year, party_basic ₹1,999 a year, MLA ₹4,999 a year, party_professional ₹4,999 a year, MP ₹9,999 a year, party_enterprise ₹14,999 a year, warroom_6m ₹69,999 for 183 days, warroom_12m ₹99,999 a year, and a free trial is available before you subscribe.
